The Grantham Street Precinct is of local architectural significance as a coherent area of Inter-War houses with a high level of integrity and cohesion of scale, which represents the architectural character of this period of residential development of Brunswick West. This representativeness of the precinct is enhanced by a number of intact elements of the period, including shops, the tramway, and the two individually listed unusual buildings at 405-413 (the former Beacon Garage and flats) and 356 Brunswick Road (house) by local resident Victor Heiberg. These latter buildings were constructed with salvaged materials. The housing comprises mostly brick Inter-War Bungalows and villas in Brunswick Road and Park Street. Styles represented include Bungalow and English Domestic Revival. The intactness of the precinct is enhanced by the large number of original or traditional gardens, and original front fences, many in brick.
