Statement of Significance

The proposed Airlie Avenue Urban Conservation Area, incorporating existing UCA to Kelvin Grove, is of high local importance for the integrity and interest of its surviving 1890s and 1900s building stock. In particular, the rythm of structures is of note and the extent to which the development of the area in two distinct eras is readily apparent.

The proposed future extension of the area into Highbury Grove and Larnook Street, and incorporating the existing UCA at Vail Street, brings together a fine collection of structures from the turn of the century and a complimentary range of substantially intact streetscapes, notable for the repetitive character of their building stock and the regularity of rythm of their built form.
