Statement of Significance

What is significant?

The Grandstand at Benalla Showgrounds, which was constructed in 1913, is a timber-framed grandstand with distinguishing curved roof to the seating section, and half-curved roof over the clubrooms at the rear. It is divided into seven bays formed by chamfered timber posts and queen post trusses. Each bay has shingled and corrugated iron panels with a timber and cast iron lace frieze.

The Grandstand at Benalla Showgrounds is of architectural importance to the State of Victoria.

Why is it significant?

The Grandstand at the Benalla Showgrounds is architecturally important as a rare example of a surviving timber-framed grandstand, with barrel roof and ornate timber cast iron lace frieze.
