Statement of Significance

The house at 57 Seaview Avenue is aesthetically significant at a LOCAL level. Although relocated and altered, it still demonstrates some original design qualities of a Late Victorian style, together with interwar Bungalow elements that resulted after its removal. These qualities include the steeply pitched gable roof form that traverses the site, and a skillion front verandah with a central entrance gablet. Other intact qualities include the horizontal weatherboard wall cladding, c.1925 unpainted brick chimney, c.1925 timber framed double hung windows, gablet shingling and the side gable paneling and battening.

The house at 57 Seaview Avenue is historically significant at a REGIONAL level. The building was the first denominational school in the Barwon Heads region. This site is also historically significant for its associations with the Barwon Heads Estate subdivision of 1891 and the Riverside Estate subdivision of 1920.

The house at 57 Seaview Avenue is socially significant at a LOCAL level. It is still recognised by parts of the Barwon Heads community for its association as a school house in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

Overall, the house at 57 Seaview Avenue is of LOCAL significance.
