Statement of Significance

LOCAL SIGNIFICANCE: The coal creek mine was historically significant as one of the state's leading black coal mines from the eaerly 1890's until the advent of the State Coal Mine at Wonthaggi in the early 1990s. Little or no visual signs of the mining operations remain.
