Statement of Significance

The former Police Superintendents Residence, a single storey brick villa with return verandah, hipped slate roof, was constructed in 1869 to accommodate the Police Superintendent of the Wimmera. The small service annexe which flanks the residence was added in 1885.

The former Police Superintendents Residence is a rare example of a building type, it is thought to be the only purpose built police superintendents residence in the state.

The former Police Superintendents Residence is of historic importance in demonstrating the importance of police establishments in a gold fields community. The former residence has an important association with the history of police administration in the state of Victoria.
