Statement of Significance
What is significant?
The dwelling has been demolished. HO1335 has been removed as per amendment C452ggee gazetted in February 2025.
STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE:
This weatherboard cottage, which dates from c1913, has regional historical significance because of its association with early industrial activity in Newtown and particularly with Edwin Hawkesworth's Tannery until 1917 when it became the property of the Corio Wool Scouring Company Limited, and was occupied by company employees. Both the tannery and wool scouring works have gone, but the cottage remains as a rare survivor. It has local architectural significance as a simple characteristic Edwardian Cottage.
