The ford is located on Knights Road just east of the T intersection with Banks Road, in the Parish of Paywit, Knights Road is named after John Alison and Andrew Knight who were early settlers on the land bounded by Knights Road, Banks Road. Yaarum Creek and Swan Bay. Knights Road is shown crossing the Yarrum Creek in maps as early as 1869. The ford is therefore, likely to date from the early settlement period of the Bellarine Peninsula. There are no other fords on public roads on the Bellarine Peninsula.

It is of scientific and historic value to the local Marcus Hill and Bellarine Peninsula communities.

The several layers of ford structure visible above the creek bed are of scientific value as the last remaining example on a public thoroughfare of a once common menas of crossing water courses on the Bellarine Peninsula.
