Statement of Significance

The former Heidelberg Government School No. 294 Residence at114 Cape Street, Heidelberg, is of state architectural and historical significance. Although in bad Condition, it is one of the oldest houses in the municipality. The Gothic Revival style is unusual in the area. It was designed by the influential Education Department Architect, Henry Bastow, who was later the Chief Architect of the Public Works Department. It was the home of locally prominent personality, Alex Kelso, who was a driving force in many of the areas social and educational institutions.
