Statement of Significance

What is significant?
The former Outtrim School Residence, designed by the Public Works Department and constructed in 1913, at 1 Beard Street, Outtrim is significant. It is a Federation dwelling based on a single corrugated hip roof with a projecting gable set off centre, and a contiguous verandah at a lower pitch that covers the wider section of the facade. The roof features a rough cast battened gable end and a large brick chimney with moulded brick bands with a terracotta pot. The projecting gable has a multi-pane double hung window.

How is it significant?
The former Outtrim school residence is of local historic significance to the South Gippsland Shire.
Why is it significant?
Historically, it is significant as rare evidence of the town of Outtrim, which has all but vanished. As one of the few buildings that is still in its original location and the only extant building associated with the former Outtrim State School it provides tangible evidence of the original location of the town in the early twentieth century before its demise. (Criteria A and B)
