The Mirboo Post Office, at 100 Ridgway, Mirboo North, constructed in 1915, is significant. The Federation Post Office was constructed by the Public Works Department as a transverse weatherboard gable building with a front projecting gable. The main roof extends at the rear and front to form the entry porch, which is supported by widely spaced pairs of timber posts and a weatherboard balustrade dado. The projecting gable includes a painted louvred vent at its peak, and a simplified casement window that is similar to the side windows. The entry porch contains an arched frame valance and there is a secondary projecting gable at the rear of the building. Other features of the building include an original entry door, early counter and desk on the interior. Non-original alterations and additions are not significant.

Why is it significant?
Historically, the Mirboo North Post Office is one of three Post Offices in the South Gippsland Shire constructed by the Commonwealth Government prior to World War I. This building demonstrates the influence of Federation on South Gippsland, and the importance of Mirboo North as a community centre at the time. (Criterion A) Aesthetically, the Post Office is an intact, representative example of a Federation era public building, especially one built by the Commonwealth. Additionally, this building significantly contributes to the historic character of Mirboo North. (Criterion E)
