Statement of Significance

The shops at 476-478 Toorak Road are of regional and possiblystatesignificance as a fine and substantially intact example of OldEnglishcommercial mode of the interwar period, and for their role withintheimportant Toorak village group of Old English Shops. They areadditionalsignificance as a fine example of the commercial work ofRobert BellHamilton, a prominent commercial and domestic architect inthis periodand a leader in the use of Old English modes in the interwar years.
