Statement of Significance

Sunset Guest House, which was built in 1920 for Margaret Laidlaw and occupied by James P. Cochrane, is significant to Cardinia Shire as a well-preserved example of a guest house, highlighting the special role played by the northern towns in the tourist trade of the shire. The building is significant for its associations with Mrs Laidlaw, who owned the property over a long period and was still advertising the guest house in the Railways Department tourist guides of the 1940s.
