Statement of Significance

Charcoal burning kiln,which may date from c1940, is of significance to the Cardinia Shire and potentially the State (subject to further investigation) because it provides evidence of the a particular phase in the development of the timber industry in the district, using local timber.

It is one of two known portable metal charcoal kilns in the State.

It also has historical significance for its reputed associations with the use of internee labour during the Second World War, and the burning of charcoal as a substitute during wartime petrol shortages.
