Statement of Significance

St Augustine's Parish Hall, school is significant to the City:

- as an expression of the growth in Catholic education in Yarraville after the creation of the new parish and as a direct reflection of the State aid policy for non-government
schools (Criterion A4);
- for its representation of the great contribution made by the Yarraville Catholic parish to provide for their education and social centres (Criterion G1);
- as a large externally near intact architect designed public building from the inter-war
period, built at a time when the Great Depression was at its height (Criterion A4, D2);
- as a contributory building in a locally significant church school complex, consisting of the convent, church and the presbytery (Criterion A3).
