Statement of Significance

C LISTED - LOCAL SIGNIFICANCE

The house at 89 Shackleton Street is aesthetically significant at a LOCAL level. Although slightly altered by the introduction of aluminium wall cladding, the house still demonstrates original design qualities of the interwar Californian Bungalow style. These qualities include the rear major traversing gable with two perpendicular gables that project towards the street frontage. Other intact qualities include the brick chimney, lapped galvanised corrugated iron roof cladding, wide eaves, timber framed double hung windows arranged as a horizontal bank of three under the verandah and as a flat roofed projecting bay, verandah gable with round concrete Doric columns and rendered brick piers with concrete cappings, and the decorative gable infill (brackets and vertical joinery).

Overall the house at 89 Shackleton Street is of LOCAL significance.
