SIGNIFICANCE: »Important as the building of one of the minor denominations. Sits well at the transition in the streetscape between the road to the Henty Highway and the grid of the town plan. STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE Church of Christ 55 Hamilton Place Built on land originally sold by the Crown to J Phillips in 1857, the Church of Christ is of local significance for its architecture and its historical associations with one of the minor denominations in Hamilton. The church, apparently built between the wars, is in a tradtional Gothic style which has been pared down in detail and has domestic overtones. The sense of Gothic style is created by the windows, the bellcast section of the roof and the fleche which crowns it. The simplicity of the detailing, the materials and the scale of the building suggest a domestic informality. The building is substantially intact and in good condition. It sits well at the transition in the streetscape between the road to the Henty Highway and the grid of the town plan.
