STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE

The house at 7 Flinders Parade is aesthetically significant at a LOCAL level. Although altered, it demonstrates original design qualities of the interwar Californian Bungalow style. These qualities include the dominant gable roof form. Other intact or appropriate qualities include the horizontal weatherboard wall cladding, corrugated profile roof cladding, tall, rendered brick chimney with a projecting cornice and two terra cotta pots, wide eaves, timber framed double hung windows wide fixed central lights between, verandah portico supported by paired timber posts, exposed timber and rendered piers with timber cappings, capped timber balustrade, verandah and gable shingling, gable brackets and the timber stringcourse on the street facade. The surviving original (1905) cottage that now forms part of the rear of the existing dwelling also contributes to the significance of the place.

The house at 7 Flinders Parade is historically significant at a REGIONAL level. It is associated with Amuri Russell, long-time owner, whose family were large landholders from "Wurrook" station, Rokewood. Mrs Russell took an interest in the local community, providing her private book collection for loan as part of the library.

The underground tank at 7 Flinders Parade may be scientifically significant at a LOCAL level with further investigation and research.

Overall, the house and site at 7 Flinders Parade is of LOCAL significance.
