STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE

This building was constructed in 1915 by the Geelong architects, Laird and Buchan, has state historical significance as an example of the development of local community services and as an illustration of the major role typically played by sport and recreation in the community life of Victorian country towns. I has architectural significance at state level as an important recreational building and for the virtuosity in its gloriously sinuous Art Noveau timber fretwork decorations.
