Statement of Significance

Westleigh is one of the few remaining large houses established at Northcote in the 1860s and 1870s for Melbourne's merchant and manufacturing classes, exploiting the rural setting and views which have since been eroded by later subdivision. Westleigh was also the first Northcote home for the college of that name which served as one of the few private schools in the northern suburbs and played an important role in the education of many of Northcote's existing population.
