Statement of Significance

"Glenlee" at no. 62 Park Street Moonee Ponds, was built in 1903 for James Paton. It is aesthetically important. This importance (Criterion E) arises from the building's architectural character which is that of the Queen Anne villa which foreshadowed the development of the Federation period villa that is so strongly represented in the Municipality. It compares in this respect with Oakden Addison and Kemp's "Woodlands" of 1888 although by 1903 "Glenlee" could be seen as being conservative for its time. In spite of its comparatively late date, however, this building adds depth to the heritage of Federation period villas in the Moonee Ponds area and is of special value in this sense.
