Statement of Significance

"Nosilla Court" at no. 35 Leslie Road, Essendon, was built for the undertaker, Joseph Allison, in 1937. It is historically and aesthetically important. It is historically important (Criterion A) in Essendon as the home of the undertaker, Joseph Allison, proprietor of the long established firm of undertakers now known as Joseph Allison Funerals. It is aesthetically important (Criterion B) in the Municipality as an Old English style house, attaining popularity in the 1920's and seen in its later guise in this example of the 1930's, the absence of half timbering and dominance of stuccoed work being by then characteristic. This importance is enhanced by the high level of integrity of the house and its setting.
