The house known as "Ellimatta" and later "Napperby" at 38 Miller Street, Essendon, was built in 1889 for the Presbyterian Church of St. John, possibly to the design of architect Harry Browse Gibbs. It is historically and aesthetically important. It is historically important (Criterion A) for its association with the Presbyterian Church and as an unusually large and early villa for the locality. It is aesthetically important for its restrained use of the Gothic Revival mode, demonstrating the building's origins as a manse, whilst its survival on a large allotment enhances its presence at the Lincoln Road corner.
