What is significant? Non-original alterations and additions are not significant. How is it significant? Why is it significant? It is architecturally significant as a fine example of a Victorian era house, which is distinguished by the verandah iron work and large front windows. It has aesthetic significance as a building that contributes to the historic character of the Lorne Street precinct (Criteria E & F).
The house formerly known as "Kilborin", built prior to 1882, at 2 Lorne Street, Moonee Ponds. The form, scale, and original external materials and detailing of the house contributes to the significance of the place.
The house at 2 Lorne Street, Moonee Ponds is of local historic and architectural significance to the City of Moonee Valley.
It is historically significant as one of the first houses constructed in Lorne Street and illustrates the first phase of residential development in this area (Criterion A).
