Statement of Significance

The house at no. 16 Brewster street, Essendon was built in 1904. It is aesthetically important (Criterion E) as an example of the Federation period villas for which Melbourne's middle class suburbs are noted and is distinguished by the juxtaposition of
unusual decorative elements in the Arts and Crafts manner, foreshadowing later stylistic developments.
