Statement of Significance

What is significant?
The former State School No. 1418 of North Byaduk is now used as the North Byaduk Public Hall. It is located on the State School Reserve, overlooking Lyne Creek, on Knight's Road, north west of the township of North Byaduk. The former school is a one roomed bluestone school house with an entrance porch, and a detached corrugated iron toilet block 20 metres from the main building. The former school has been finely constructed from local bluestone, and is in excellent condition. It also retains a very high degree of integrity.

How is it significant?
The former State School No. 1418 is of historical, social and architectural significance to the community of Byaduk and to the Southern Grampians Shire.

Why is it significant? The former State School No. 1418 is of historic significance as the expression of the Byaduk North community's struggle for education, and for its association with 100 years of schooling in the area. It is of social significance as the focus for the community. The school is of architectural significance for it use of traditional forms, fine construction techniques and for its used of local materials.
