Statement of Significance

Remains of a small shaft mine and mullock heap. Historical records suggest a prospecting party in the 1870s reported a valuable deposit of tin ore and gold in this vicinity. The Mines Department refused the application to occupy the allotment despite there already being a hut and garden established. The applicant finally went on to possess the land. The owners of the site suggested local oral tradition describes this site as a tin mine. [details taken from Butler 1979: 591 and 592]

This site is therefore potentially significant in relation to this historical information.
