What is Significant?
The Yacht Club Hotel, constructed in 1892 possibly to a design by Powell, Whitaker & Canning, at 207 Nelson Place, Williamstown. The Yacht Club Hotel at 207 Nelson Place, Williamstown is of local historic and aesthetic significance to the City of Hobsons Bay. Historically, it was associated with the initiation of the Hobson's Bay Yacht Club and a prominent quasi-public building in the town. (AHC criteria A4 and D2) Aesthetically, it is a near original competently designed hotel building in a common late nineteenth century commercial form which contributes to an important streetscape and possesses interesting details associated with its maritime setting.
