C Listed - Local Significance STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE The Ozone Monument, unveiled in 1995, commemorates the story of the Ozone paddle steamer which was built in Scotland in 1885 and operated on the Melbourne, Queenscliffe and Geelong excursion routes from 1886 to 1926. The anchor was restored by the Queenscliff Marine Centre and the monument was designed and constructed by the Indented Head and St Leonards Foreshore Committee of Managment with the assistance of the Port of Geelong Authority, the Bellarine Rural City Council and the Bellarine Historical Society. The Ozone Monument has historical and social value to the Bellarine Peninsula community. The Ozone Monument records the details of a vessel which was of importance to the Bellarine Peninsula.The creation of the monument is an example of a co-operative venture between various organisations in the district to preserve local maritime heritage.
