STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE - GRC - HISTORIC PLACES DOCUMENTATION SHEET NO. 104

The monument consists of an anchor on a stone base bearing the following inscription.

"Matthew Flinders RN (1774-1814) of HMS Investigator named this coast Indented Head and camped on it with a boat crew for the night of the 29th April & 1st May, 1802 before and after crossing the channel from Pt. Richards to ascend the You Yangs. This monument was unveiled by Cr. J. G. Davies JP, President of the Shire of Bellarine at the Bi-centenary Celebrations 24/3/1974.
