STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE

The Presbyterian Church at Batesford was erected in 1860 to designs by Geelong architect Joseph L Shaw. This rectangular plan church built of locally quarried courses basalt is a primitive gothic style structure derived from the Scottish Kirk architecture of the early 19th Century and characterized by the central belcote and restrained gothic ornamentation.

The church has interesting associations with establishment of the Presbyterian Congregation in the Moorabool District and is a notable work of prominent church architect Joseph Lowe Shaw.
