STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE

The former Drysdale Post office was built to plans signed by John Smith Murdoch in 1925 and opened in 1927. The original rendered brick walls, hipped roof form, window and door openings, chimney and ornamental wall detailing still survive.

The former Drysdale Post Office has historic and social value to the Drysdale community.

The former Drysdale Post office is associated to John Smith Murdoch who was the first Commonwealth Government Architect and was closely associated with the design and development of Canberra and a large number of Government buildings throughout Australia. Although it is no longer used as a Post Office, the original exterior architecture of the building is basically intact and it is therefore important as an example of a purpose built rural post al service public building.

It is of Local cultural significance.
