C Listed - Local Significance STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE St John's Anglican Church was designed in Victorian Gothic style by Melbourne architects Terry and Oakden and constructed in brick by local builders Treven and Gubby to opening 1883. The building has a high pitch slate gable roof, pointed arch windows, tall bellcote and north elevation entrance porch. Some post war changes were made. St. John's Anglican Church has aesthetic, historic and social value to the Portarlington community. St. John's Anglican Church is a relatively intact late Victoria Gothic styled building with a distinctive belfry designed by a leading Melbourne architectural firm. It is associated with the large Anglican population of the Portarlington area in the 1880s. It is of LOCAL cultural significance.
