"Bonnyvale"

STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE

Homestead and Stables were built in 1887 for James Wilson Jnr., Son of James Wilson, pastoralist and bloodstock agent/breeder of St. Albans Homestead. The single storey room style homestead has been altered almost beyond recognition and is not part of this citation. The barn/stables is a double storey weatherboard roof building with clerestory lighting and vents to gable ends. The outbuildings and stable comprise a particularly harmonious and unique group of weatherboard buildings and have particular associations with the early thoroughbred industry.

Geelong Advertiser 7th July 1886. Joseph Watts, Architect, calls tenders for building additions to premises in Moorabool Street for James Wilson Esq. (This indicated that James Wilson moved to Bonneyvale after the sale of the St. Albans Estate, he was a client of Joseph Watts. The style of Bonneyvale is compatible with the general oevre of Watts in the 1880s.
