Statement of Significance

C Listed - Local Significance

The former Sinclair's Produce Store, Portarlington was built c1900 and designed by Geelong architects Laird and Barlow. Integrity is only fair as the windows of the double storey polychrome brick building have been considerably altered on the second level front facade and verandah decoration has been removed.

It is of historic and social significance to the local Portarlington community.

The former Sinclair's Produce Store is part of the commercial history of Portarlingtons Newcombe Street, which served the township, surrounding rural areas and the tourist trade. This shop was especially significant for the agricultural community as it operated as a produce store until the 1940s in the ownership of J. Sinclair, later J. Sinclair and Co.

It is of LOCAL cultural significance.
