STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE

The R.S.L. Hall at Portarlington, formely the Colonial Ban of Australasia, was erected in 1888. This conservative classical revival style bank and residence is constructed of cement rendered brickwork and is typical fo the work of George Jobbins, architect to the Colonial Bank and author of similar buildings at Drysdale, Birregurra and Winchelsea. The structure is a simply yet refined classical design with an appreciable townscape contribution to the seaside hamlet, Portarlington.
