C Listed - Local Significance STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE 111 The Avenue Ocean Grove was built of brick in the 1890s. It is of scientific and historic significance to the local community of Ocean Grove. No 111 The Avenue Ocean Grove appears to be the first substantial brick house constructed in the town. The house was built for Mr Glew, a retired brickmaker from the Melbourne suburb of Brunswick, who used locally made bricks for the building . It is of LOCAL cultural significance. Additional Information A paddle boat called Perserverance constructed by Barwon River boat builder Glew operated on the Barwon River in 1912. It was the only passenger boat of reasonable size to operate on the Barwon.
