STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE

Ingamells Park was part of the 1800's subdivision of Ocean Grove and is a large, well-treed open space with an oval.

It is of social and historic significance to the region of Greater Geelong.

Ingamells Park was central to the original subdivision plan of Ocean Grove which was modeled on a Methodist summer retreat in Ocean Grove, New Jersey, USA. In the early years the park was used fro religious meetings, camp gatherings and Sunday School picnics and was later named after the first proprietor of the Ocean Grove coffee Palace. In more recent years the site was developed with temporary dormitories and a hall and used by the Methodist Church for children's and youth camps. Ownership was transferred to the Uniting Church in 1977. As well as its importance as a central part of the unique Ocean Grove development, the park has been valued by the local community as open space and as a venue for recreations and sports.

It is of REGIONAL cultural significance.
