STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE

The Wesley Methodist Church at Grovedale (Germantown) was erected in 1869 to Colonial Georgian Style design by architect/surveyor R. S. Tuffs. This simple rectangular plan church or squared coursed basalt with freestone quoins and architrav3s is derived from architectural pattern book sources. The church, built in a distinctive secular style appropriate to the Weslyan Methodist creed, has served the Grovedale farming community for over 100 years.
