How is it significant?
Waterwheel farm is of architectural, archaeological and historical significance at the state level.
Why is it significant?
Waterwheel farm mill is of architectural significance as a distinct form of vernacular multi-storey timber framed industrial building, which is a very rare type to survive in Victoria. It is also technically and archaeologically significant for evidence of methods for harnessing water power in the nineteenth century to exploit local resources. The surviving elements can provide evidence of design and technology decisions that are not available in historical sources. The site is of historical significance for its association with the Trewhella family, and as one of few surviving representative buildings relating to the development of forrest resources and establishment of self sufficient food production in rural victoria.
