Statement of Significance
What is significant?
The remaining Pier structure buried in seabed sediments to seaward of the current concrete pier and undisturbed archaeological deposits associated with the use of the Pier since its construction in 1863.
How is it significant?
The site is associated with the early development of the town of Dromana and with the development of transport infrastructure across the Mornington Peninsula.
Its link with the Bay steamers make it part of a group of beach-side tourism destinations that epitomize the growth of outdoors recreation and beach culture in Victoria and give it a significant place in the history of development of Australia's tourism industry.
