Why is it significant?
The tree is of scientific significance as a fine example of the species and due to its, outstanding size by height, circumference and canopy spread. This specimen is the largest known example of its species in Victoria, rivalled only by the specimen at the rear of the Herbarium at the Royal Botanic Gardens but this example is significantly taller as it is not pollarded annually.
It is also of social significance due to its prominence when flowering, the owner stating there is a sea of red beneath the tree during flowering time which makes a significant contribution to the streetscape.
