Statement of Significance

What is significant?
The Tramway Road Former Residence represents the location of a former early 20th century homestead, as well the extant 1945 residence. There remains the potential for undisturbed archaeological deposits or features remaining at the location of two buildings associated with the early 20th century homestead, as well as subfloor archaeological deposits beneath the 1945 residence.
How is it significant?
The Tramway Road Former Residence is of local historical and archaeological significance.
Why is it significant?
The Tramway Road Former Residence is of historical significance for its association with the establishment and intensification of pastoral economic practices within the Gippsland region.

The Tramway Road Former Residence is of archaeological significance for the moderate likelihood of undisturbed archaeological deposits and/or features remaining at the site. No structures have been constructed at the location of two buildings visible in a 1935 aerial photograph, meaning that associated subsurface features and archaeological deposits are likely to remain at the site. Additionally, a residence first depicted in a 1945 aerial photograph survives onsite, albeit in a renovated state. While several extensions have been made to this building since 1964, there remains the potential for archaeologically significant subfloor deposits existing beneath the original 1945 component of the residence.
