Statement of Significance

What is significant?
the remains of the original house and farming infrastructure built by Alfred and Walter Jones when they held the Dargo High Plains run, from 1872 until 1882. The chimney remains, with the potential also for associated features, deposits and artefacts related to the long occupation of the property. In addition, features such as a blacksmith’s forge pit, original fencing, a well and remnant planting provide evidence of the historic occupation of the site.

The site is of historic and archaeological significance
Why is it significant?
The site of significance for its association with, and ability to provide evidence of, high country grazing and associated activities over the course of 140 years, as well as the early C20th operation of a store and post-office in a remote region. Supporting historical documents are held by the Treasure family who currently have a grazing lease for the property
