Statement of Significance

What is significant?
The identified artefact deposit (likely refuse dump) and any additional archaeological features (e.g., formal rubbish ‘pit’) that may be preserved it the immediate vicinity of the identified deposit, which have the potential to be associated with the late nineteenth to early-twentieth century (c.1890 to 1910) occupation of the developing township of Sorrento.
How is it significant?
The site is of moderate historical and archaeological significance at a local level.
Why is it significant?
Historical Significance - The site is of local historical significance due to its potential to contribute to an understanding of the nature of occupation of land in the vicinity of the site during the late nineteenth and early-twentieth century. 
Archaeological Significance – The site is of archaeological significance as it demonstrably contains an artefact bearing deposit/s, that likely date to a relatively short historically significant time period (c.1890 to 1910). Further research into any additional artefacts that may be preserved at the site has the potential to contribute to an understanding of the nature of domestic and/or small-scale commercial artefact assemblages of this period.
