Statement of Significance

What is significant?
The potential archaeological remains of the former 1870s homestead.
How is it significant?
The site is archaeologically significant.
Why is it significant?
The site appears to have been part of the pre- and early Gold Rush-era settlement of Oaklands Junction when this area saw the subdivision of the original allotments on Wildwood and Somerton Roads into smaller farming allotments.

The site is of archaeological significance as there is good potential for archaeological features and deposits to be present in the site, dating from the early 1870s period. Moloney and Johnson (1998: 13-14) identified several heritage themes and features in the Bulla area that they assessed as being of exceptional significance: ‘Post-Gold-Rush Farming’; and ‘Pastoral Homesteads’. The potential for archaeological features in the former homestead site contributes to these significant historical themes.
