In 1883, Henry, Robert and William Hudson of Hudson Bros, Sydney
purchased the site. A plan of subdivision was lodged in 1886. The
first allotments sold by the Hudson brothers were closest to the
railway station, in the vicinity of Robert Street, William Street (now
Bolton), The Avenue and Hudsons Road as well as Craig, Raleigh and
Robb streets. In 1888, the Spottiswoode Estate Company was formed for
the purpose of purchasing land at Spottswood which was owned by the
Hudson brothers. Both Henry and Robert Hudson held 5,000 shares in the
company which went into liquidation in 1894. There were multiple
short-term leases of the site in this period. The archaeological recordof this place, will contribute to our
understanding of Melbourne's developing industrial and commercial
heritage within the Spotswood Industrial Precinct
