STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE
The premises of Henry Thacker, stationers, booksellers and printers of 131-133 Ryrie Street were established in 1850-51 for J. Waddleton. A new brick and cement rendered facade was added tot eh existing fabric in 1912-13 to the Edwardian Art Nouveau style designs of Geelong Architects Laird and Barlow. The unusual three bay composition with flanking partitions and bay windows is a distinctive design and an outstanding example of the architecture of the early 20th Century. The influence of Robert Haddon is apparent in the facade articulation. References Geelong and Western District Alphabetical Directory 1890-91 p.119. Henry Thacker is present in Ryrie Street.
