Statement of Significance
Lonsdale Street is of high archaeological and historical significance. It is an example of an intact and in situ 1880s cable tram track infrastructure in Melbourne. It is likely that other remnant features remain under the bitumen roadway and could include subsequent sections of tracking including two areas of the track turning into either Spencer Street or Elizabeth Street. There is potential for other significanthistoric service features to be present.
