STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE

Historically, symbolic of the rationalisation of friendly societies at the end of last century, as the first groups to provide sickness benefits and general well-being for the working and middle-classes. (See also, Manchester Unity hall, Moorabool Street).

Architecturally, an early and skilfully designed commercial building using what was to become Edwardian Freestyle, in common use 10 years later. Also, it possesses valuable cement detailing on the parapet and possible glazed tiling (now painted).
